A day in the life and home of a child In an informal settlement
Hello, my name is Kathy and I live in an informal settlement, it's not very pleasant to be honest. I leaned about informal settlements at school. I just want to tell you this so you know the struggles. I wake up to shooting all over the house, "KATHY GET UP! YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS ARE ALREADY READY FOR SCHOOL!" ... That was my mum, I love her to bits but sometimes she can be a bit mean, "KATHRINE, WHAT DID I JUST SAY?" Oh well time to get up, I wish I could sleep in but I need an education. I get ready for school.
I dont have clothes so I wear my moms, she has nice clothes. I'm now eating breakfast by myself. My school has very little teachers, so we don't get much attention. Sometimes I go to school really hungry, but happily I got to eat today(it was payday for mom's work) our house is really rikity and is made out of bad materials, but... We're moving today to and advanced house, were tired of waiting for the goverment, sometimes family's die without even getting anything from the goverment! Some people came to our house and asked if we wanted a new house, and of course we said yes! So we have to pay R4000 but the poeple will cover the other R4000 luckily. Our small house has improved, now we have enough space for all of us to sleep! None of us have to sleep on the floor now! But we still have to use the toilet that everyone in the block or two use. I'm happy we're moving, also our economy has improved a little from the rubbish all around the streets to recycling! Anyway I have something to tell you since you've been reading, I'm really sick and I can't get into hospital because it's already so full now that it's winter, I do have medicine but it doesn't taste nice. Anyway bye now!
Bravo! Bravo Shikina! I loved how you went into you're everyday life and how you wrote your blog as if we were their ourselves and was hearing what your "mother" was saying to you. The way you described your blog and your characters health was excellent and how the child life has developed. Great job. you deserve a little trophy.
ReplyDeleteHi Shikina! I’m glad you got a new house, I hope you are going to be better. I’m happy that all the rubbish is gone. Hope you have a wonderful year!
